Psychological services are billed at $220 per therapy hour (50 minutes). The initial or first session is 90 minutes in duration and is billed at $330. These rates are based on the current recommended fee schedule of the British Columbia Psychological Association.

The province of BC’s MSP program does not currently cover the fees for private practice psychological services. However, services provided by a Registered Psychologist can be claimed as a medical expense and are tax-deductible. A number of private, supplementary health care insurance programs or employee extended health benefits plans will pay either a portion or all of the costs associated with seeing a registered psychologist. Talk to your insurance provider or employer to determine what your child may be eligible for. The amount of insurance coverage varies widely from plan to plan, it is therefore important that you check your coverage documents carefully. Some plans refer to psychological services as “paramedical” or “other medical” services.
